A very large and tastey bird!

The Wild Turkey is found through parts of North America. To the authorities it is regarded as a valuable game bird. To hunt these over sized grouse where I live you need to take a course to be able to purchase an overpriced tag to attach to the bird. They have to be taken in to check stations after harveseted in tact.. the day the bird is shot.. within a time frame...which is very inconvenient for alot of us hunters. During the course I took they were unable to give me much reasoning as to why this is but that we have to do it and that's that. Anyways, it is my opinion that it is yet another money grab by the government to shoot an over sized grouse... or better known as the Wild Turkey.

Well, if you're into it, it's something to hunt in the spring. From what I've seen hunting, the hens go to the gobblers when they call, but they tell you in the course that I had to take, that the gobblers go to the hens... which I didn't see.... Oh ya.. another thing they told me was that turkeys hate water and swamp. In the area we were hunting the turkeys were roosted right over the swamp where I'd need chest waters to get to the trees. I don't claim to be an expert on turkey hunting yet but whatever some of these course instructors tell you here in Ontario, take with a grain of salt and learn for yourself. The ones we are allowed to shoot have to have a 6 inch beard so it's mostly Toms and very large hens. BTW.. they taste pretty good.
